Savory Rosemary and Cheese Cookies

Savory Rosemary Cheese Cookies RecipeMy oven has been going full blast for the past few days, pumping out batch after batch of cookies, with many more still to be baked.  Cookbooks lie spread across the kitchen table, hand written recipes are strewn about, and stacks of cookie sheets are at the ready.  I’m in the midst of preparing for my annual Girlfriends Soup and Cookie Party .  I began the tradition a few years ago as a way to show my girlfriends how grateful I am to have them in my life.
Savory Rosemary Cheese Cookies RecipeThe soup portion of the evening is superfluous, but I feel a need to warm their tummies in preparation for the sweets to come.  It is a night intended for complete indulgence.  Stacking plates are overflowing with cookies, each and every one baked with love.  Whatever cookies aren’t consumed during the party go with them, my way of extending the love to husbands and children at home.
Savory Rosemary Cheese Cookies RecipeThese Rosemary and Cheese Cookies straddle up splendidly next to a bowl of hot soup, and are much more interesting than your typical slice of bread or cheese and cracker.  The original recipe relies on a cookie press to pipe the dough, but realizing not everyone has one,  I tweaked it here and there and came up with this ‘slice and bake’ adaptation. It is a bit more rustic that the cute little flower shaped cookies you get from a press, but with much less equipment and clean-up required.
Savory Rosemary Cheese Cookies RecipeIf you are looking for a quick and easy, do-ahead savory cookie for your upcoming holiday party, you have found it.  These cheese cookies can be made weeks in advance and frozen.  Last minute, just pull as many as you need from your stash in the freezer and you are good to go.

  1. Delicious cookies! A soup and cookie party sounds like an awesome idea – 2 of my favourite foods, particularly at this time of year. My friends are also (thankfully) big foodies and I’m sure they would be on board with an idea like that. Genius! 🙂

  2. Thank you!! I just happen to have a bowl of this cookie dough in my fridge right now, having broken the cookie press trying to make spritz cookies with it last night. Now I think I stand a chance at actually baking them!

  3. Aw, that is such a sweet tradition to do with your girlfriends! My oven has been cranked on day after day to finish all the holiday baking as well!

I love how these cookies are savory. Plus, these photos are gorgeous.

Hope you`re have a beautiful holiday, Mary!

    • My holidays were just lovely Lynna. Hard to believe they are now behind me – but not before many cookies were baked and eaten, these Savory Rosemary Cookies among them.

  4. Hands down, one of my FAVORITE of Mary’s recipes!

Surprisingly wonderful — it feels like a cookie. The texture’s the same but the sharpness of the cheeses brings it back to a first course accompaniment to soups and main dishes.

What doesn’t this pair well with? From appetizers to main courses to soups or salads….

    Delicious!
